Description
The Energy Applications division is seeking a leader to fill the position of Electronic Engineering Manager for the Verification and Validation section. This position provides people and technical leadership for a team of about 15 technical leads and engineers in the US and Mexico plus further global resources, and $4M budget. This team assures Caterpillar’s engine, battery and fuel cell clients and customers have a high quality, trusted and value-added experience.
The team has the responsibility for design, development, and execution of automated and manual verification of electronic controls and the integration testing of various energy solution into Caterpillar prime products such as earthmoving machines, industrial engines, generators, compressors, locomotives, and marine vessels. The testing responsibilities span from software and hardware in the loop to on machine integration testing. They are responsible for test case development in concert with new content designers as well as regression testing on existing capabilities across several platforms. It ensures full traceability and transparency for test efforts and results so defects can be identified and address early in development. The team develops and maintains automated testing capabilities for maximum coverage on features, functions, and on the iron operating scenarios.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software and system development or testing, project and team leadership, strong written and verbal communication skills, be well organized and can interact with clients, suppliers, and senior leadership. The candidate must be comfortable with recommending and making decisions that impact people, performance, quality, and how the company is perceived by customers. Additionally, the candidate will be a strategic thinker with the ability to solve problems, will be able to engage, coach and develop people, and maintains a high level of accountability and focus on clients.
Job Duties
This position is responsible to lead a highly technical team of engineers in the design, development, and execution of automated and manual verification of electronic controls and the integration testing of various energy solution such as engines, batteries, and fuel cells. This role is accountable to recruit, organize, train, mentor, develop and retain qualified team members to meet deliverable expectations for testing capabilities ensuring features, functionality, quality, cost, and time requirements are met. Daily responsibilities can range from budget planning for a global team; managing expenses for people, projects, material and travel; prioritizing work and coordinating resources to achieve project objectives; reporting and presenting on initiatives, projects, progress and issue status; interacting with clients, suppliers, peers and leaders on a variety of items; strategic planning for new equipment, processes or capabilities; individual and team meetings on performance and career and other functions. This role works close with a peer group of managers to synchronize efforts and maximize efficiency and performance.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 10-15 years of progressive experience in design, development, or testing of embedded controls.
- At least 5 years’ experience in project management and leading project teams from initial requirements discussions through delivery and subsequent support, including plans and schedules, budgeting, quality, and client engagement.

- Experience with engines, battery, or fuel cell subsystems
- Previous and progressively growing team leadership experience and organization skills are necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, ability to deal with sensitive issues, mentor, and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, or potential solutions.
- Prior global team leadership experience
- Experience interacting with multiple clients with varying and potentially conflicting needs
- Desire to work in a fast-paced and dynamic technology environment
- Fluent in both English and Spanish

The location for this position is the Peoria, IL area.
United States domestic relocation is available for this position.
25% travel is required for this role
