Job Summary:

As a member of the instructional team, The English Language Arts teacher is responsible for facilitating learning in the Master Classrooms, and the daily instructional delivery of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, and values while also meeting state and national academic standards. The ELA Teacher is responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents. The ELA Teacher assists students in discovering their academic potential, diagnosing student errors and misconceptions, and promotes a positive learning environment. The ELA teacher will also stay current on the latest research on teaching and learning, uses data to drive instructional decision-making and facilitates student’s development cognitively, socially and emotionally.


The ELA Teacher works as a part of the instructional team in order to meet the needs of all students. The building of relationships are a critical component of this learning environment, the team works together to identify student needs that may be barriers to success. Teachers collaborate with team members to analyze different means of meeting student needs and communicates with students, parents, and other team members about student progress and plans for next steps.


ELA Teaching Responsibilities
:

  • Facilitate learning in the Master Classrooms using the approved curriculum for assigned grade levels and subjects;
  • Grade essay, research papers and open-ended response items while providing feedback to students;
  • Identify and select appropriate supplemental instructional materials aligned to content standards;
  • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practice in instruction;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state standards, testing requirements and graduation requirements within the core content;
  • Analyze formal and informal data and accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports regarding student instruction and achievement;
  • Develop short term and annual goals based on identified students need , that reflect national school counselling standards and state program components related to guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services and system support;
  • Provide essential supervision to students in their education requirements;
  • Administer benchmarks, formative, and summative assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting;
  • Monitor student progress towards graduation;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, staff, and community as needed;
  • Become proficient in the use of computer based instruction and software;
  • Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, grades, observations, anecdotal records, and other related data;
  • Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner;
  • Contribute to a culture of professionalism among team members;
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal Academic Officer;

Required

  • Appropriate / valid Teacher certification;
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in the related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook;
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of students
  • Minimum Three (3) years of teaching experience in the classroom;

Preferred

  • Evidence of working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology;
  • Experience working with at-risk student population;
  • Evidence of educational experiences after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate course work to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology, etc.);
  • Proven experience as a teacher working with student population in some capacity;
