Early Childhood Teacher
Job description
Do you find joy and pride in working with children and their families? Are you committed to the idea that learning happens best in an environment where teachers, children, and their families collaborate? Can you imagine a genuinely child-centered classroom where your role is to observe the child’s interest and enthusiastically offer inquiry-based learning? Do you focus on the process of learning rather than creating projects as an end result? If so, we’d like to hear from you.
Wurzelkinder is a progressive mixed-age German immersion preschool based in Brooklyn, NY. The program offers full-day and aftercare programming for children ages 2-5. Our philosophy is influenced by Co-Construction Theory, Froebel, and Reggio Emilia, emphasizing interest-driven learning. Children in the program are carefully observed, and learning experiences in the classroom reflect the current interests of the group.
Wurzelkinder is looking for experienced early childhood educators with a strong background in emergent curriculum and the ability to build meaningful relationships with children and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a loving, stimulating, safe, caring, playful, educational environment where children feel at home.
- Encourage play and growth in all areas of development: approaches to learning, physical well-being, health, and motor, social and emotional, communication, language, and literacy, cognitive.
- Be a role model with a strong moral compass, validating the rights of all children and their dignity.
- Closely observe children’s talents, resources, and needs.
- Perform classroom instructions and supervision, and observe the children's behavior and growth.
- Reflect together with the team to write professional standardized assessments.
- Write engaging newsletters in English that keep families informed about classroom activities and involved in the Wurzelkinder community.
- Collaborate closely with your team in a co-teaching model.
- Co-create and implement an inspired, creative, and emergent curriculum.
- Reflect on your own pedagogical practices and competencies and show initiative to evolve personally and professionally.
- Adapt the curriculum based on needs, learning styles, growth, and interests.
- Communicate with families and caregivers compassionately and effectively.
- Create a safe environment that allows every child and family to be themselves and thrive.
- Be professional and kind in interactions with children, co-workers, and families.
- Take care of the children, our space, and each other.
