Direct Support Professional-Squirrel Hill-Home and Community

This is an excellent role for anyone with a background in social work, psychology, human services. We offer a sign-on bonus - $1,500.00 for part time and casual positions $3,000.00 for full time hires! We also offer paid training.

Salary/rate:
$15.45 per hour
Location: Squirrel Hill
Schedule/Duties:
- Monday and Friday mornings: transport to local community center and assist in the locker room. Accompany to other community establishments.
- Monday through Friday afternoons: prepare dinner according to diet and health needs, engage in activities and, if necessary, transport to parents home before leaving.
- Tuesday - Thursday mornings: provide assistance in preparing for daily activities and provide transportation.
- Saturday afternoon: transport and accompany to bowling and have dinner out after.
- Sunday afternoon: participate in recreational activities both in and out of the home in order to stay active.
Position Description:
Direct Support Professionals (DSP's) provide direct care and personal support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community setting. They ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the people we support.
DSP's positively impact the people supported through Achieva in a number of ways: taking people to medical appointments, participating in activities, helping people with personal care and supporting activities of daily living.
Job Responsibilities - Highlights:
- Assist with daily living skills
- Provide reminders on dressing appropriately based on weather (i.e: to avoid overheating) and community activities (i.e: athletic wear, formal wear, etc.)
- Assist with food shopping to encourage choices that are according to health needs and prepare meals that meet health needs and encourage portion control
- Assist in cutting food, while encouraging participation in helping with meal preparation and cooking skills
- Reminders on how to complete basic hygiene when using the restroom
- Consistent communication with parents and guardians about arrival and departure from shift as well as communicating all needs and activities that occurred during the shift
- Socializing while in the home (i.e: games and reading/discussing books)
- Transport to parents house, as needed, at the end of shift
- Encourage participation in opportunities for socialization with friends, staff may need to encourage participation by directly engaging in the activity

Minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, valid driver's license and personal vehicle at your own disposal
- Due to the medical needs of the individual, staff must be vaccinated with both primary vaccination shots and a recent updated booster shot with an annual updated booster thereafter
