Position Summary
The Drivers Education Specialist provides classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to assist students to earn a drivers license and support their employability.

Essential Functions
1. Educate students on driving safety, situational awareness, and driver responsibilities in compliance with state requirements.
2. Maintain the integrity of center vehicles designated for driver education and notify management of routine maintenance needs.
3. Immediately report incidents to center management and the designated safety officer.
4. Meet with newly enrolled students to introduce them to requirements to earn a drivers license and provide information on removing barriers to qualifying for a license.
5. Maintain flexible hours to meet students scheduling needs as well as to provide opportunities to practice driving in a variety of conditions such as night driving.
6. Ensure documented accommodations are provided to students in collaboration with the Disability Coordinator.
7. Maintain discipline and manage the learning environment to ensure quality and safety conducive to instruction and learning.
8. Maintain strict accountability of students during training hours and take attendance regularly.
9. Record student attainment of drivers licenses in the Center Information System (CIS) in consultation with the Records department.
10. Participate on the career management team (CMT) to evaluate student progress, provide regular feedback on goals, achievements, and career success skills, and project students for completion.
11. Support the Zero Tolerance policy and center Behavior Management Plan to promote a safe environment and cooperate with center leadership to record student incidents in the appropriate systems.
12. Proactively rewards students for achievements and positive behavior and enter positive incident reports in CIS.
13. Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance student learning and employability.
14. Monitor supplies, equipment and instructional materials and submits work orders, purchase orders and requests to management in a timely manner.
15. Participate in the student scheduling process and recommend adjustments to best meet student needs
16. Participate in department meetings and all mandated PRH and Strategix training.
17. Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property and adhere to safety practices.
18. Promote a harassment-free environment.
19. Utilize information systems and handle student data in strict adherence to Job Corps and Strategix policies to protect students personally identifiable information (PII) and reduce network security threats.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions ranging from cool in Winter to extreme heat in the Summer and Fall months, and occasional poor air quality. The noise level can vary from moderate to loud.

Minimum
High school diploma and driver education teaching certification/license. Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet insurance requirements. Five years of driving experience and two years of driver education teaching experience. Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Information technology proficiency including MS Office.

Preferred
Bachelors degree and three years of driver education teaching experience. Previous Job Corps experience.
