Position Description

PURPOSE:

Responsible for directing the Disability Ministry of the church including responding to family and child needs, developing and implementing programs, and evaluating program success.

POSITION FOCUS:

Inviting everyone to walk together in a life of discipleship, helping kids, students, and their parents follow Jesus in a complex world.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides vision and strategy for a Disability Ministry within Family Ministry, and serves as an advocate with broader staff and the congregation.
  • Build and lead the team that will develop a new Disability Ministry within Christ Churchs existing Family Ministry department. This will include partnering with student ministry staff so that those with disabilities will be included in current programming, as well as developing new programming when necessary.
  • Builds and consults with an advisory team to set and monitor how our ministry offerings to kids and students with disabilities interface effectively within the larger Family Ministry department.
  • Facilitates and champions the construction of new sensory rooms for kids and students on each Christ Church campus.
  • Serves as a thought leader, networking with other churches and organizations in the community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministry Overview

  • Partner with leadership, Communications, and staff to shape the messaging around the ministry.
  • Transforms the congregational awareness of opportunities to serve, resource, and connect with families of children with disabilities, while integrating Disability Ministry seamlessly into kids and student ministries
  • Drives the content for curriculum adaptation for kids and students with differing needs, collaborating with Children and Student staff.
  • Coordinates with adult discipleship staff and volunteers too help advocate for and support their ministry efforts with a vision for future ministry expansion into adult ministry.
  • Serves as an equal partner within Ffamily Mministries to create inclusion and self-contained learning opportunities for childrens and& student ministry. This includes Sunday programming, midweek kids and student ministry, worship, and other family ministry activities on both campuses.
  • Supervises the recruitment and training of ministry leaders and volunteers to serve families and individuals with disabilities on both campuses.
  • Connects personally with families and students, birth to grade 12, as well as serving as an advocate for graduated students within the larger church.
  • Coordinates with local schools and therapy centers
  • Develops on-going ministry opportunities such as a monthly respite program for individuals with disabilities and their families, family support groups, sibling support groups, and learning opportunities.
  • Partners with the Family Ministry team and communications to share the offerings available to kids and students with disabilities and their families.
  • Manages the Disability Ministry budget.
  • Attends and leads staff meetings, training opportunities, appreciation events, and other events as appropriate

  • Support and model individual spiritual formation i.e. Worship, Grow and Serve (weekly worship, prayer, scripture reading, small group, volunteering etc.)
  • Schedule days off for quiet time, reflections, and respite
  • Journey with the preschool staff through the book Discovering Our Spiritual Identity

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of a bachelors degree in education, special education, religious studies, or related field preferred.
  • Three to five years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position requires exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects or people independently or utilizing a two-person lift.
  • This position is active and may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing.
