Position: Director of Planning and Purchasing

Reports to: VP, Operations and Supply Chain

Direct Reports: Supply Planners, Buyers, Master/Demand Planner

Location: Hayward, CA

Status: Fulltime, Exempt

Position Summary:

Drive the company’s resource planning activities by managing the tools, the team members, and outcomes to deliver the business plan. Own the end-to-end planning horizon, from demand through finished goods inventory, supported by production and materials plans. Establish effective ERP functionality and ERP usage to produce these plans, delight our customers, and drive financial results. Develop and manage the company’s Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process, tools, and structure. Act as a key partner with various functional and executive leaders to plan and execute the company’s short/medium/long-term objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Own the Sales and Operations Planning process, from development through ensuring ongoing effectiveness.

Develop Standard Operating Procedures for the S&OP process.

Own the Planning and Purchasing functions including: Demand Planning, Master Planning, Supply Planning, Purchasing/Buying, and Replenishment

  • Establish a Demand Planning infrastructure to support an 18-month rolling weekly forecast.
  • Integrate external data to produce the rolling 18-month demand plan in weekly buckets.
  • Implement a full S&OP process, partnering with other teams, departments, and business partners to get business results.
  • Utilize ERP as the repository for the Demand Plan and subsequent Supply Planning activities.
  • Discover and utilize ERP for data elements such as stocking levels, lead times, re-order points, general PO management, and vendor management.

Collaborate cross-functionally to:

  • Launch and obsolete products.
  • Manage inventory risks and opportunities.
  • Execute and recommend network footprint options to best serve the business (internally and externally).
  • Balance operational and supply chain costs.
  • Influence CAPEX and other major financial decisions and execution.

Provide ongoing analyses to determine risk/reward opportunities within the ever-changing inventory landscape.

Be a data-driven leadership team member that influences business performance.

Effectively manage the S/M&OP team

  • Provide and coordinate on-going training to ensure the development of direct, indirect, and partner teams.
  • Lead the selection and evaluation of department staff.
  • Provide clear direction and feedback to team members to drive accountability and recognition, and to achieve business results.

Other Critical Day to Day duties or Responsibilities

Ensure even flow of inbound and outbound goods to support internal and external customers.

Leading by example and mentoring to ensure that new ways of working are understood and implemented.

Enable team members to be key staff members on plant teams.

Influence warehousing teams and data to drive efficiencies.

Provide ad hoc planning analyses (situational).

Monitor data and changes to demand and supply to create a dynamic, iterative environment.

Other duties as assigned.

Employee/Non-employee contacts

Internal – Leadership and Executive team members and functional teams, Plant Management teams, Procurement/Purchasing.

Key members of the company’s Leadership Team.

External – ERP and supporting software partners, customer teams.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree. Preferably in Supply Chain, Finance, or Business-oriented.

5+ years of relevant experience in Supply, Demand, Inventory Planning. Exposure or experience in plant operations is highly desired with procurement experience helpful.

Strong ERP experience is required. Netsuite a plus.

Intermediate or better skills in Excel and Access (database) is required.

Inventory/supply planning in a multi-site network (warehouse or manufacturing)

Demonstrated ability to build/develop system and process, rather than simply utilizing an existing process.

Demonstrated excellent collaboration skills a must.

Minimum Language Requirements

English Proficiency; communication, reading, grammar, writing skills etc.
