JOB SUMMARY:
Directly supervises the nursing staff, clerks, CNA’s, Medical Assistants, and other medical ancillary staff. Acts as Nursing Supervisor. Performs duties concerned with the care of the sick and injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health in compliance with LaSalle Corrections policies, state directives and correctional healthcare standards. The employee is responsible for the performance of the nursing and ancillary staff. Works under the supervision of the Health Services Administrator.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Supervisory and administrative skills are essential. Knowledge of medical procedures and evaluative processes. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of medical equipment. Ability to follow instructions from Nursing Protocols, Procedure Manuals, physician, or extender orders. Ability to establish and maintain health records and any required quality reports. Skill in relating to demanding patients in stressful situations.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø Direct and supervise all nursing staff
Ø Overseeing departmental reports for quality and process improvement functions
Ø Communicates with the HSA about recruiting and onboarding of new staff
Ø Organize and coordinate nursing and patient care procedures
Ø Conduct cursory medical exams during inmates’ first 24 hours on site.
Ø Conduct designated health services special programs as assigned.
Ø Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
Ø Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
Ø Ensure all reports and statistics are kept and properly reported.
Ø Assist in hiring and training employees, perform evaluations and counseling, ensure personnel responsibilities are met for designated shift.
Ø It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ø Graduate of approved School of Nursing and current license approved by the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Ø One year of nursing experience required, preferably in a supervisory capacity in a correctional facility.
Ø Basic understanding of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare.
Ø Aptitude in problem-solving and stress management skills.
