Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Services, the Director of Finance and Business Services is responsible for the daily management of all fiscal activities of the NCAA Division I Athletic Department including budget reporting, expense analysis, reallocations, and revenue tracking. Assures all fiscal activities are conducted in compliance with Federal, State, Conference, Institutional and NCAA laws and regulations. Maintains and ensures fiscal integrity of the Department’s $45 million budget. Oversees the daily management of the Athletic Business Office. Creates, implements, and manages comprehensive business operations systems and processes that maintain and support a sound fiscal environment for the Department’s 21 Division I intercollegiate sports programs and administrative offices. Prepares necessary financial reports required throughout the given fiscal year to be used as a tool for budget management, budget preparation, and financial reporting to maintain proper funding levels for all areas within athletics. Provides guidance to Athletic Department constituents as to best operational practices.
Essential Functions
- Oversees all of the daily fiscal activities of the NCAA Division I Athletic Department including budget reporting, expense tracking, reallocations, and revenue tracking. Assures all fiscal activities are conducted in compliance with Federal, State, Conference, Institutional and NCAA laws and regulations.
- Maintains and ensures fiscal integrity of the Department’s $45 million budget.
- Manages Department’s prepaid card program, uploading funds for travel per diem, recruiting visits and other occasions. Reconciles charges to appropriate budgets via journal entries. Implements best-practice policies to increase efficiency of requests, uploads and re-allocations.
- Oversees all daily management aspects of the Athletic Business Office including monitoring the Department’s operating expenses and budgets.
- Has signature authority as defined by the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Services.
- Oversees preparation and reconciliation of operating budgets for each of the Athletic Department sports and administrative areas.
- Consistently analyzes financial data and compares budgeted to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Reconciles and creates monthly financial reports in an accurate and timely manner and clearly communicate monthly financial data to all head coaches and heads of department. This includes keeping the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Services abreast of discrepancies, changes or concerns.
- Executes daily, month-end, and year-end financial tasks for athletic accounts which includes posting journal entries and budget transfers.
- Advises senior staff and head coaches about on-going finance, budget and business issues, and develops financial models for planning purposes.
- Coordinates housing and meal needs when necessary in conjunction with Residential Life, Conference Services, and Auxiliary Services.
- Provides assistance and information to the Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Services for the annual audit, EADA, and annual budget reports for the Faculty Senate and Athletic Council.
- Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in the field through publications, seminars, and conferences.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Sports Management, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated experience in areas of budget and finance.
- Demonstrated experience with database and spreadsheet creation and management specifically Excel.
- Experience creating policies, procedures and systems in an office environment.
- Well-developed interpersonal, conceptual, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate and handle last minute concerns.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound personal judgment.
- Ability to participate effectively in team efforts and in diverse groups of constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Four years of demonstrated experience in areas of budget and finance in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated experience working in an intercollegiate athletic setting.
- Familiarity with Peoplesoft financial production and Summit reporting.

Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM, 37.5 hours per week.
