Job Title: Director of Event Management
Department: Event Management
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Event Management Staff
FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt
Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience and ranges from $95,000 to $110,000 annually.
General Summary:
The Director of Event Management is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Event Management Department personnel, to include but not be limited to: recruiting, scheduling, training, and disciplining of event managers and support personnel, key liaison between Event Management and Operations Department; and controlling events within the Colorado Convention Center (CCC) as assigned and monitor the logistical interfacing of those events. The Director of Event Management is familiar with all events within the CCC and knowledgeable in all established policies and procedures and responsible for informing the Event Management Personnel of any additions/changes/updates to such existing policies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists the General Manager in assigned administrative responsibilities, including department budgetary issues
  • Responsible for recruiting, supervising, scheduling, training, and disciplining of event managers and department support personnel including:
    • Establish short and long term goals and objectives for personnel supervised
    • Develop training programs for continued development of personnel supervised
    • Writes and conducts the performance standards and performance evaluation programs for personnel supervised
  • Acts as a key liaison between event management and all operational departments, including:
    • Develop and enforce policies and procedures for efficient operation of the department
    • Serve as administrative contact for clients and event managers during events to facilitate any unusual problems or concerns that may be encountered
    • Knowledgeable in all policies, procedures, and overall operating guidelines of the CCC
    • Interacts with other department managers in the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures at the CCC
  • Administers the following supervisory duties:
    • Assigns all upcoming events to event managers
    • Supervises the monthly event managers’ schedules
    • Authorizes the accuracy of all final event settlement billings
    • Conducts weekly event meetings with event managers and operational department
    • Assigns sales tours to event managers, when needed
  • Researches, reviews and recommends equipment, materials and supplies required in providing event services and planning.
  • Maintains the proper image, generates positive public relations with patrons and staff and creates a high level of customer service with all departments.
  • Develops policies and procedures for the Event Services Department and monitors their compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience
  • BA in Business Management, Hospitality Management, or Venue Management Required
  • 3-7 years in Event Management experience in Amphitheatre, Arena, Convention Center or Stadium or related venue
  • Minimum Five years’ experience in proven supervisory and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with minimum instructions.

  • Detailed knowledge of space utilization, convention operations, meeting requirements, and production specifications
  • Ability to speak, understand and read English required

Computer Skills
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
Other qualifications
  • Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) certification

The Director of Event Management oversees all events contracted at the CCC. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours to coincide with events. Work hours are irregular and are required to be adapted to, to insure proper coordination/coverage for events. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility; to stand for long hours during events; talk and hear. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
