Direct Support Professional

Monday & Wednesday 7 am - 4 pm/ Tuesday &Thursday 7 am - 3 pm

We are hiring compassionate, hard working, friendly and reliable Direct Support Professionals to work with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. (I/DD). If you don't have previous I/DD experience, we'll provide training!

Responsibilities:
  • Driving a young person with high-functioning autism from Robbinsville, NC to Southwestern Community College in Sylva and back each day. (HCM provides some mileage reimbursement. Consumer's family will fill DSP's gas tank weekly to contribute to the expense of the daily drive.)
  • Remaining on campus with the consumer and helping navigate classes and college courses.
  • Helping the consumer with their syllabus and assignments while also preparing for their next school day.
  • Watch for triggers and things that could potentially upset the consumer.
  • Keeping the individual safe in the community.
  • Teaching skills to promote independence
  • Supporting community inclusion and integration
  • Assisting with daily living needs
  • Mentoring individuals to help build social skills and relationships
  • Provide guidance and support in daily activities
Qualifications:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • You might be driving to client's home or with client, so a reliable form of transportation
