Purpose of the Position
Thorlabs, a leading manufacturer of equipment for the photonics industry, is currently seeking applications from highly motivated individuals with proven aptitude for social media strategy development, ad campaign management, writing, communications, and digital marketing project execution. The successful candidate will develop engaging, relevant, and brand-appropriate social media content for our audiences across LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. S/he will plan, manage, and track digital ad campaigns, reporting on their success. The Digital Marketing Specialist will analyze our existing social media and digital ad presence to develop and execute a refined strategy to drive audience engagement, increase website traffic, improve lead generation, and support customer needs.In addition to social media strategy and digital campaign management experience, the candidate should possess strong writing and presentation skills in English, excellent project management skills, the ability to work under tight time constraints, and a desire to learn about Thorlabs? technologies. S/he will work closely with in-house graphic artists and videographers to create social media content, ad collateral, and other marketing content. Hence, this position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
The Digital Marketing Specialist reports to the Digital Content Lead and will work out of our Newton, NJ facility with a 3 days home/2 days in the office flex schedule, with opportunities to travel to tradeshows and/or other Thorlabs manufacturing locations.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:
- Develops, implements, and manages Thorlabs? social media strategy in conjunction with digital marketing team
- Plans, creates, and publishes social media content based on a predetermined schedule and tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant metrics and data
- Develops product/capability/service ad campaigns, executes, and tracks their progress
- Monitors social networks and drafts responses to comments and mentions as necessary
- Manages social media calendar and campaign project timelines
- Utilizes knowledge of SEO to improve social, ad, and website content rankings
- Researches and presents ideas for new advertising opportunities
- Works with Graphic Artists or owns the creation of high quality, brand-appropriate images and videos for posts and advertisements
- Works with science writers and engineers to ensure content is technically accurate
- Stays up to date with the latest best practices and technologies for digital media
- Contributes writing to internal communications needs
- Performs website writing and updates
- Assists with graphic design projects, video storyboarding, or video shoots as necessary
- Additional responsibilities may include participating in and leading marketing projects
- Role may include travel to and participation in some tradeshows
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years? experience managing social media platforms and executing social media strategy
Education:
- Bachelor?s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field or equivalent work experience
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Native Language Writing Skills in English
- Interest or Demonstrated Aptitude in Science and Technology
- Strong Organizational, Planning, and Project Management Skills
- Ability to Multitask, Be Detail Oriented, and to Solve Problems, All While Under Tight Time Constraints
- Familiarity with Sprout Social and Adobe Creative Suite a Plus
- Experience with Video Storyboarding or Video Content Creation a Plus
