Overview:

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Department of Corrections College Advisor at Moraine Park Technical College, Fond du Lac Campus. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining contact with Department of Corrections (DOC) students in assigned program area(s) to provide admissions, financial aid, registration, enrollment, and general academic assistance. This position focuses on retention by supporting students through referrals to appropriate College support services. This position will be required to travel to several prisons in our District on a regular basis.

This position is funded through the Ascendium grant through December 2023 and then will be college funded.

Summary of Work Schedule-Academic: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Total Hours/Week-Academic: 37.5
Summary of Work Schedule-Summer: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Total Hours/Week-Summer: 34



Hiring range: $24.10 - $28.36

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Department of Corrections (DOC) employees to solicit interest in MPTC programming offered at correctional facilities. Work with prospective students at correctional facilities to review steps in the admissions and financial aid process. Work with students to complete the initial enrollment processes. Collaborate with employees in Admissions and Financial Aid to ensure a smooth enrollment process for students in correctional facilities.
  • Assist new and returning accepted students in developing and updating their educational plans. Provide information and assistance regarding program offerings, program qualifications, course placement, adult and general education, course content and selection, pre-requisites, transfer opportunities, and graduation requirements.
  • Assist students with administrative and program processes such as Financial Aid, veteran’s tuition assistance, scheduling, registration, payments, course withdrawal and book/materials acquisition in compliance with DOC standards. Refer student questions or concerns regarding policies, procedures and academic standards to the appropriate units, tracking questions to ensure student follow-up. Provision books to students at the DOC facilities.
  • Provide career information and assistance to accepted students interested in changing their program or transferring upon program completion. Utilize the student information systems to maintain student records; maintain time and effort reports, and client report students per WTCS guidelines.
  • Contact and refer to various support services at the DOC facility or MPTC, when appropriate.
  • Recommend, develop and implement process improvements based on data, best practices, customer satisfaction studies and related feedback. Revise procedures and tasks as necessary.
  • Assist with the transition of students from DOC to MPTC in-person/online classes by connecting them with appropriate College support services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, sociology, human services, business or a related field. Any combination of equivalent training and experience which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Three years of related occupational experience in a post-secondary educational setting, preferably in a technical college setting.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Global Career Development Facilitator training.
  • Familiarity with DOC.
  • Familiarity with the needs of two-year college students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Experience in an ERP system required; Banner preferred. Working knowledge of computer systems (hardware and software) to include MS Outlook and MS Office Suite software. Zoom or Teams experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate the ability to capture essential issues, suggest solutions and provide research and follow-through.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply confidentiality rules/guidelines/laws. Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.
