Customer Service Representative/Patient Advocate also known as Health Care Representative 1, act as advocates and meet with patients and their families daily. They are responsible for tracking every application they receive and obtaining high rates of successful outcomes.


Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami FL


Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 12:00PM-9:00PM, Holidays included


Additional compensation will be provided for employees who work anytime after 7 PM on weekdays. It will also be provided for all weekend shifts worked.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interview patients in a hospital setting and/or home visits and work effectively with hospital personnel to assist patients with obtaining maximum benefit coverage
  • Complete applications for state and federal programs (including Health Exchange/Marketplace programs)
  • Achieve and maintain certification designation as “Certified Application Counselor”
  • Review medical records and take all necessary actions to expedite benefit approval
  • Adhere to company and legal standards regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and Personnel Transaction Identifier (PTI)
  • Maintain ongoing communication with government agencies regarding the status of claims
  • Provide updates and assistance to hospital personnel and other Change Healthcare staff as needed
  • Maintain documentation of status of claims and client contract on Change Healthcare and/or hospital computer systems
  • Determine when to use a Federal, State or Local program application based upon medical definition of disability as it relates to body systems and to functions of daily living, and information contained in medical records

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience with strong work ethics and confidentiality pertaining to medical records
  • Intermediate computer/tablet skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of college degree
  • 1+ years of relevant hospital and healthcare experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Meditech experience
  • Knowledge of federal and state programs that will benefit coverage for clients
  • Bilingual candidates - Spanish or Creole is highly preferred for this location

If the hired individual resides in Florida (office based or telecommuting) this position requires the AHCA Level II background check (fingerprinting) by the State of Florida for all clinicians that have direct face to face contact with members OR employees who will have access to confidential patient data and will require renewal every five years.
