Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in electrical or mechanical equipment preferred. Two years of experience with custodial equipment repair or similar demonstrated acceptable experience with electromechanical equipment required.

Certifications, Licenses or Permits required

Valid Georgia driver’s license required.

Description

Inspect, diagnose, and perform repairs and preventive maintenance on different types and makes of custodial equipment in an efficient and timely manner.

2. Create, process, and maintain department records, including but not limited to work orders, purchase receipts, inventory transactions and others identified by the Plumbing Coordinator.

3. Explain and demonstrate basic care, safety, and operation of custodial equipment to custodial staff,

4. Job will require field repairs and picking up and delivering of equipment back to the maintenance shop.

5. Take inventory of custodial repair parts, and account for parts and labor used to complete repairs and maintenance to custodial equipment.

6. Supervise and evaluate the quality of custodial equipment repairs and maintenance performed by contractors, vendors, factory representatives, and other external service providers.

7. Work effectively, and professionally with other personnel in the trade area, and in other departments and divisions. Provide quality customer service by promptly and appropriately responding to general inquiries and specific requests.

8. Review and make recommendations for new custodial equipment.

9. Support the effective on-going operation and continuous improvement of the district's Custodial Equipment Repair Program.

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Responsible for performing skilled preventive maintenance and repairs to custodial equipment, under the training and supervision of the Plumbing Coordinator, and providing basic equipment care, safety, and operating instructions to custodial staff.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs and ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, manipulate hand/power tools, and small items with hands, operate typical office automation equipment, install low voltage wiring and control devices, and lift and transport up to 100 pounds over short distances. Employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The use of an iPAD for emailing and work order system, as well as conversing by telephone are required. Sitting working on a personal computer for long periods of time are occasionally required, as well as conversing by telephone for long periods of time. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working with or on equipment under varying conditions including work in overhead and confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include working with electricity, and electrical, battery and propane powered equipment, accessing elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices and use of chemicals and solvents. Performance Factors

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discrimination in sounds, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts with or without correction.

Vision: The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Acuity (near and far vision), depth perception (three dimensional vision), accommodation (adjustment of lens to eye to bring an object into sharp focus), field of vision (area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point) and color vision (ability to distinguish and identify colors) are required factors.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Interaction with Others: Ability to maintain, on a regular and consistent basis, relationships that are not characterized by high levels of hostility, social withdrawal or failure to communicate. Ability to be flexible relative to daily routines. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the differences among diverse populations.

Concentration: Ability to maintain workflow and thought processes in the presence of frequent distractions. Ability to ignore irrelevant sights or sounds and intrusive thoughts or stimuli. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with only few or no errors.

Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities; simultaneously manage multiple tasks; and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline.

Attention to Detail: Ability to recognize errors or layout features that detract from the physical attractiveness or accuracy of a work product.

Attendance and Dependability: Ability to be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.
