Position Summary

This position supervises the construction, maintenance, repairs and/or renewal of culvert and maintaining the ditches and water carrying facilities in the US and Mexico. Performs inspections of culverts and ditches to ensure compliance with Company policies and Federal guidelines. Works with Local, State, and Federal governments, Coast Guard, Army Corp and other agencies on culverts and drainage projects. Ensures compliance of CPKC safety rules, regulations, and work procedures. Works closely with railroad crews and contractors in the repair of culverts, arches, and water carrying structures.

Accountabilities

• Provides direction and effective supervision to all subordinates to ensure safety and promote safe and efficient work habits.
• Plans capital and maintenance budgets.
• Manages culvert materials in various locations for repairs.
• Directs the continual inspections of culverts and water carrying structures.
• Prioritizes repairs based on conditions.
• Coordinates contractors and CPKC employees in the repair and or renewal of culverts and water carrying structures.
• Ensures maximum quality performance with minimal delays and costs.
• Creates and reviews various reports, such as culvert inspection reports, weekly activity reports, material reports, FRA reports and efficiency tests
• Ensures the working reliability and performance of equipment.
• Analyzes culvert and structure inspection reports and reviews records of inspections monthly for compliance in accordance with standards and inspection cycles.
• Develops a management reporting system for culvert inspection records and findings. Looks for trends and opportunity for continuous improvement.
• Implements and uses BIMS (Bridge Information Management System) as well as the TOMS (Task Order Management System)
• Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.
• Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
• Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using CPKC Candor, Aligning the Stars & CPKC ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

• Previous railroad culvert inspection experience

Working Conditions

• Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
• This position may require travel up to 90% of the time.
