Position Description

This position assists in organization, preparation, and maintenance of Wake Tech Baking and Pastry Arts and Culinary Arts labs.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

• Prepares for all practical applications of the Baking and Pastry Arts (BPA) and Culinary Arts (CUL) laboratory experiments

• Prepares all ingredients, instruments and equipment needed to conduct BPA and CUL laboratory experiments in a safe and effective manner

• Monitors the use of the lab during open lab hours

• Assists students in developing troubleshooting skills for BPA and CUL laboratory assignments

• Maintains surpluses or removal of outdated or expired food ingredients, supplies and equipment

Maintains, inventory and orders BPA and CUL ingredients, supplies, and equipment; confers with instructors to determine supply and equipment needs

Maintains and organizes Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) files; keeps lab free from clutter

Keeps laboratory areas clean and maintains safety equipment and supplies

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of ingredients, instruments and equipment associated with the BPA and CUL programs

Knowledge of lab safety procedures and processes

Active listening and critical thinking skills

Proficiency in computer programs to include MS Office suite

Excellent organizational skills

Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Requirements:

Currently pursuing an Associate's degree in Baking with a minimum of 30 credit hours completed in Baking and Pastry Arts specific courses.

Current ServSafe certification

Preferences:

Associate's degree in Baking and Pastry Arts or Culinary Arts.
