Job description
The Coordinator of Nutrition oversees service components of the FNS and NHE program, including, implementation of Grab-and-Go pantry services, FNS grocery vouchers, nutrition counseling and group services, supervision of staff, and development and implementation of quality assurance monitoring tools and fulfilling contractual and reporting requirements to funders. The Coordinator of Nutrition directly supervises the Nutrition Program Navigator and the Nutrition Care Navigator.
Essential Job Functions
The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:
- Supervise and train Nutrition staff, volunteers, and students in pantry preparation and distribution, client-facing services including reassessments and lab update calls (PCSMs), and administration tasks and projects.
- Conduct nutrition assessments, reassessments, one-on-one nutrition counseling, and group nutrition education for clients living with HIV/AIDS as well as other chronic conditions.
- Assure pantry compliance with all regulatory mandates of NYC DOHMH and NYS DOH.
- Work with the Director in creating a warm, safe, inviting environment for staff and client’s part of the Meals and Nutrition program and pantry services.
- Assist the Director in visionary planning and implementation of the Nutrition, and Meals program.
- Create a welcoming and professional environment for all volunteers and embrace the value of volunteerism at GMHC.
- Assist the Director with Nutrition, and Meals program activities and special projects and perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Certification
Bachelor’s degree and accreditation as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
Special Skills and Knowledge
In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all the following:
- Nutrition counseling experience and background of medical nutrition therapy.
- Must have excellent knowledge of nutrition, budgeting, and inventory control; equipment maintenance; food preparation, handling and presentation.
- Excellent cooking, supervisory, communication and organizational skills
- Experience in the management of performance based and government contracts including Public Health Solutions/NYC Department of Health Food and Nutrition Services and Ryan White funded contracts.
- Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Outlook calendaring, and Excel.
- Experience working with diverse populations including people living with HIV/AIDS and individuals living at or below the poverty level.
- Managerial experience in effectively and efficiently managing human and financial resources.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
