STRIDE Community Health Center is a 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a 30-year history of providing primary care and other health-related services in a community-based setting. Established in 1989 in response to the primary health care needs of the medically indigent population in suburban Denver, STRIDE Community Health Center has the largest population base of any FQHC in Colorado and provides primary care, dental, pharmacy, behavioral health, health education, care coordination, patient navigation, pharmacy, and outreach and enrollment services in accordance with its mission.

Summary

The Controller in collaboration with the CFO assists in oversight of financial initiatives to ensure the organization has the financial resources to fulfill its purpose and mission in the short-term and long-term. While the work of this position is grounded in the Finance Department, the Controller will work collaboratively across departments to support initiatives in clinical, fund development, human resources, operations, and strategy departments and their interdependencies on STRIDE’s financial health.

Location: Oneida Administration Building (crossroads Oneida St & Evans Ave. Denver, CO). Must live in Colorado

Schedule Offered: Full Time Monday-Friday 8a-5p

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead operational finance, accounting and grant accounting personnel including Senior Accountants, Accounts Payable Specialists, Purchasing and Procurement staff, Revenue Accountants, Contracts Management, and Grants Accountants including coaching, training, scheduling, evaluating, hiring and terminating.
  • Develop team goals and monitor performance in relation to those goals
  • Provide review of financial internal controls, policies and procedures and make recommendations for changes as needed in response to changes in regulations or required auditing controls.
  • Prepare financial analysis and forecasting as needed.
  • Provide oversight of all accounting and finance transactions and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Review the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements prepared by the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and prepare Variance Review documentation for Board distribution.
  • Evaluate the financial software systems and processes of the Finance Department and provide recommendations for enhancements and oversight of conversions
  • Attend meetings of the STRIDE Finance Committee of the Board of Directors and present supplemental financial information as needed.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Development, Department leaders, and the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, ensure the organizational and capital budgets, including the annual corporate budget, grant/program budgets, and departmental budgets are appropriately documented within the financial software including the adequate account hierarchy of coding to provide accurate budget vs. actuals reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely schedules and reconciliation processes are maintained for the organization’s cash and investments accounts.
  • Coordinate the annual audits and preparation of the Form 990 and other required filings.
  • Prepare the Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports, Federal Financial Status Reports (FSRs), the financial tables in the Uniform Data Set (UDS) report, and other required financial reports
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Electronic Handbook (EHB) and partner with the CFO, VP of Development, and other appointed staff with electronic grant submission of Federal 330 Grant, and other federal grant submissions to support organizational programs and projects
  • Assure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities
  • Participate as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Provide crossover support and oversight of accounting in the financial software for revenue and receivables activity within the Revenue Service Center.
  • Oversee grants accounting and associated reimbursement requests and receivables documentation.
  • Oversee Purchasing and Procurement and ensure adequate accounting, schedules and tracking documentation is maintained.
  • Provide oversight of Contracts Management including initial review, recommendations, tracking and distribution of contracts information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant license or Master’s Degree Preferred
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or finance in a supervisory role
  • An extensive background in financial reporting and auditing
  • Accounting software experience required, systems conversions preferred
  • FQHC and/or not-for-profit experience desired
