The Role

What is the role

Delivers commercial services to ensure the effective and compliant administration and data management of commercial opportunities. This scope includes overseeing and monitoring the operationalization of new Commercial Agreements and amendments, accurately recording adherence to the approval governance process by Commercial Advisors leading to the execution of Commercial Agreements and providing management information on upcoming opportunities (the “Opportunity List”) and the governance steps required. Activities may include the provision of support, advice and services to front line trading staff to help them with the day-to-day deal making process and the management of demurrage, post deal expense and product quality claims.

  • Draft, review and send contracts/responses for the purchase and sale of crude/products oil in close liaison with the Commercial Advisor and the trader to ensure that all contracts accurately reflect the terms agreed as recorded in the deal capture system and are fit for purpose.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies timely. Ensure that contract confirmations are sent and received in a timely fashion.
  • Review and, if necessary, check the use of nonstandard wording in contracts with the Commercial Advisor.
  • Maintain a complete electronic record incorporating contracts, documents and amendments and a record of appropriate authorities obtained.
  • Maintain compliance with local implementation policies manual of authorities and SOX controls.
  • Coach and mentor other Contract Coordinators. Incorporate Shell’s five behavioral imperatives into daily
  • work ethic (external focus, commercial mindset, delivery, speed and simplicity).

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • University degree preferred and 2 or more years of work experience.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing contracts/legal documents.
  • An understanding of key contractual terms and their potential implications would be an asset.
  • The applicant must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • The applicant must be able to work well within a team environment and operate with minimal supervision.
  • The applicant must be able to work under time pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple activities.
  • The applicant must possess good writing skills.
  • The applicant must be able to effectively communicate with traders in order to understand overall scope of transactions.
  • The applicant must demonstrate good customer service and interpersonal skills and have a professional attitude.
  • The applicant needs to use good judgment to balance compliance with Shell Trading guidelines with need of trader to be responsive to customers.
  • The applicant must be able to consistently carry out activities to the required standards.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems and adapt aspects of trading contracts is preferred.
  • Ability to recognize issues by analyzing a large volume of information in a systematic and logical way is beneficial.
  • Ability to recommend modification and improvements to the control and financial security framework would be an asset.
  • Good computer skills including familiarity with Word, Excel, SharePoint and MS Outlook are required.
