Purpose/Introduction

The Community Relations Representative reports to the Port Arthur Plant Manager with dual-site responsibility for the Port Arthur Plant and the Orange Plant. This position is located at the Port Arthur Plant.

As the company's storytellers, the Public Affairs department focuses on building the company's brand and reputation, communicating company information, and being active members of the communities where we work. Public Affairs drives government relations, media relations, crisis communications, community involvement, marketing communications, internal/external communications, and digital communications to disseminate business objectives, news, and information that effectively engages internal and external stakeholders.

The Community Relations Representative will work with the Plant Managers, members of the site Leadership Teams and corporate Public Affairs to provide strategic leadership and guidance in developing consistent communications and public relations messages.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains relationships with key community, government, and civic leaders to enhance the company’s reputation locally
  • Represents the company at community events, which may be after hours or on weekends
  • Supports content development, planning, and facilitation of Community Advisory Panel meetings
  • Manages local government affairs activities for the sites, including hosting elected officials for plant tours, advocating for the company’s positions, and monitoring policy and discussions for relevant impacts
  • Serves as a core member of the plant Emergency Operations Center and acts as a public information officer for crisis incidents
  • Manages community involvement activities for the plants, including overseeing contributions budgets and employee volunteer engagement
  • Oversees external communications for the facilities, including brand management, advertising and sponsorships, local media relations, social media content development, and near neighbor relations

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Leads internal communications for the plants, including site-wide emails, site-wide campaigns, news articles, management of local intranet sites, creation of plant newsletters, digital signage, and poster content
  • Manages employee communications app content for the sites
  • Coordinates with corporate Public Affairs to ensure consistency of internal and external messages
  • Directs work of external resources for videos, graphic design, and photography
  • Plans and executes events for company milestones, employee town halls, celebrations, and community events, etc.
  • Leverages measurement tools to assess efficacy of communication campaigns and implements improvements from lessons learned
  • Contributes to plant leadership team as needed, including local issues management, turnarounds, projects and other duties as needed
  • Effectively manages projects from start to finish, ensuring strict adherence to detailed timelines, review processes, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum education of bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of seven years of community relations or communications experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage full lifecycle communications initiatives, projects, or processes
  • Experience in crisis communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline
  • Agency, petrochemical, energy, or oil/gas industry experience
  • Proficient in SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite
