The Community Outreach Liaison helps coordinate community outreach and engagement activities at the Stephenson Cancer Center to advance the center’s mission of decreasing the burden of cancer in Oklahoma. Develops and implements initiatives to increase cancer awareness, screening and education in Oklahoma. Works with missionaligned community organizations to enhance the reach and impact of cancer awareness, screening and education activities. Fosters positive relationships with community advocacy and awareness organizations that lead to collaborations. Works with cancer center investigators to develop, implement and evaluate researchbased community interventions that reduce the burden of cancer. This position reports to the Senior Outreach Liaison at the Stephenson Cancer Center.
Responsibilities:
- Outreach Coordination. Initiates, coordinates and evaluates cancer awareness, screening and education initiatives, conducted either solely by the cancer center or in partnership with missionaligned community organizations.. Examples include developing and conducting community health screenings and awareness events with a focus on events that are linked to research at the Stephenson Cancer Center.
- Community Liaison. Establishes and fosters positive relationships with missionaligned community organizations. Represents the Stephenson Cancer Center at community events. Incorporates SCC Research Program into the community and vice versa. Collaborates with community organizations and health care systems to develop and implement cancer awareness, screening and education initiatives, as well as research projects. Coordinates with university and cancer center fundraising staff to identify and support community organizations interested in hosting thirdparty fundraising events.
- Program Implementation and Coordination. Serves as project manager for the development, implementation and evaluation of communitybased cancer awareness, screening and education programs, and health care delivery systems in Oklahoma. This can include health and screening programs, awareness programs, and advocacy programs. Develops and implements programs in conjunction with other appropriate cancer center staff (e.g., clinical operations, contracting, and research personnel). Programs that involve research are prioritized.
- Grant Development. Assists with the identification and application for federal, state and community grants from organizations, such as the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society, focusing on health care delivery systems in Oklahoma. Oversees and/or assists with the preparation of written proposals to these organizations, as well as the fulfillment of all reporting requirements.
- Research Program Liaison. Works with leaders of each Stephenson Cancer Center Research Program to identify opportunities to conduct research on priority cancers and priority cancer risk factors in Oklahoma. Helps connect researchers with communities.
- As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Psychology or related field.
Experience: 24 months experience in marketing, public relations, outreach programs, or closely related field.
Equivalent/ Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree for a total of 72 months experience
