About the Position:

We are hiring Community Habilitation Specialists for our Nassau County. The ideal candidate possesses a wide range of skills and is eager to promote YAI's mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, love, work, and learn in their communities.

Community Habilitation Specialists DSPs work one on one in the community with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). They have a schedule where they work with the same individuals for a few hours on a weekly basis.

Schedule:

· Hours are typically Monday - Friday 11:00am - 7:00pm (Some Saturday Hours Available). PT and FT Positions available.

Key Responsibilities:

· To provide direct care services as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, the provision of counseling, training in ADLs (Assisted Daily Living skills), assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and other needs within the program.

· Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the people we support.

· Build and maintain positive relationships.

· Assist the people we support in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities through teaching, self-advocacy, and emotional support.

· Facilitate community integration, recreational activities, and socialization.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· High School Diploma or GED

· Valid Driver’s License

· Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus but not mandatory

· Ability to complete three to five weekdays of paid New York State-mandated OPWDD training during normal business hours
