• Receives and assesses all specimens for integrity into the laboratory.
• Distributes all acceptable specimens to appropriate lab sections.
• Sets up microbiology cultures.
• Aliquots, prepares and stores all specimens for referral testing.
• Performs waived testing.
• Obtains specimens by venipuncture when OPDS lab assistants are off duty.

• High school education or equivalent GED required.

• Requires some knowledge of medical terminology and skill in use of computers including word processing.
• Requires three months customer service experience, or experience working as a certified phlebotomist (32 hours of completed clinical rotation required), or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care, which includes drawing blood.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.

Compensation/Benefits

• $15.46-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience.
