National Grid Partners is hiring a Chief of Staff/Executive Advisor. The position is located in our Los Gatos, CA office.
Job Purpose
Reporting into the Chief Technology and Innovation officer of National Grid, and President of National Grid Partners (NGP), the Chief of Staff / Executive Advisor plays a critical role in supporting the team to execute on our strategic and financial objectives. As the right hand to the NGP President, this important and influential role has great responsibility and even greater opportunity for personal growth.
Chief of Staff will support the NGP President, coordinating activities across the five functional divisions (Innovation, Incubation, Corporate Venture Capital, Business Development, and Venture Acceleration). To maintain the fluidity and coordination of the team, you will have to build relationships, be well respected, have excellent communication and operator skills, and most importantly have a positive and motivated attitude. In this multidimensional role you will wear many hats: strategist, project manager, consultant, supervisor, innovator, and investor thereby developing a broad skillset.

Key Accountabilities
- Supporting the NGP President, coordinating activities across the five functional divisions (Innovation, Incubation, Corporate Venture Capital, Business Development, and Venture Acceleration)
- Support NGP on the evaluation, structuring and execution of transactions, screening deals and projects to assess strength and fit with National Grid’s strategic priorities
- Develop and enhance Business Unit value-added services, with a strong focus on integrating new and existing portfolio companies into National Grid
- Develop and review NGP’s strategic investment priorities and associated portfolio strategy alongside the NGP leadership team
- Support the NGP President in establishing NGP as a core part of the Strategy & External Affairs function
- Coordinate and manage the Venture Capital Investing Committee, including shaping the agenda and discussion items, contributing to the recording, and distributing meeting minutes and appropriately documenting resolutions in the System of Record
- Serve as liaison between staff, executives, and senior leaders regarding team climate, employee wellbeing, project updates, proposals, and planning Global Business Development
- Represent NGP in external meetings, events, networks and speaking engagements to develop projects: oversee cross functional projects or initiatives, bring together stakeholders, monitor deliverables to ensure timely completion, drive outcomes and ensure alignment
- Communications internally with the NGP team, executives, business unit leaders, as well as externally with the investing and innovation ecosystem
- Develop presentation material in accordance with the vision and strategy defined by the NGP President
- Coordinate with the NGP and support function teams (IT, HR, Legal, Finance) to streamline activities within the organization and always look for areas of improvement
- Closely work with the Executive Assistant to the NGP President to seamlessly manage activities and deliverables proactively
- Create updated material for various corporate reporting: use systems of record to generate KPI’s, summarize team activities, develop objectives, and report compliance
- Oversee daily activities including but not limited to: preparing material, generating correspondence, general team coordination and alignment
- Prepare for and follow-up on meetings: produce agendas, prepare the meeting room, record notes, capture action items and confirm follow-up on actions
- Provide additional support where needed to fill gaps and ensure smooth operation and on time delivery

Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Science, Engineering, or similar field, with MBA or Master’s Degree required
- 5-10 years experience within a strategic, operations, or management consulting environment, with a focus on Energy and Utilities
- Understanding of the energy sector including operations, trends, competitors, incumbents, regulators, policy makers, and business models
- Understanding of the National Grid’s regulated and renewable business strategic priorities and operations, and the implications of how National Grid Partners can support and enable their delivery
- Technology literate, with experience understanding the business and strategic implications of technological change, with an ability to synthesize barriers and obstacles to effective technology deployment
- Ability to articulate National Grid’s strategic direction, and identify opportunities and linkages between National Grid’s core operation, and the activities of National Grid Partners
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior stakeholders and experienced executive level advisory
- Demonstrated ability to build good working relationships with peers and subordinates, internally and externally to National Grid
- Basic understanding of the seed / venture capital / private equity investment sectors as it relates to emerging technologies and business models
- A history of leading and supporting successful projects, and managing conflicting priorities in order to deliver against stakeholder expectations
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver compelling and impactful materials to different levels of internal and external stakeholder audiences (PowerPoint proficiency required)
- Experience with data analysis, metric creation and monitoring, project reporting, and operational efficiency and excellence (Excel proficiency required)
- Proven success in leadership situations
- Versatile and nimble to accomplish any task thrown your way
