DUTIES
:

Plans, develops, supervises, and manages the U.S. Coast Guard Marathon Program to culminate in an annual marathon event, exposition and awards ceremony. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of on-going marathon activities to ascertain where and how the program can be strengthened and improved.


Develops, manages, and administers annual budget requirements; monitors/explains variances and makes revisions as necessary.


Ensures all sponsorships and support received from sponsorships and applicants are handled in accordance with applicable guidelines. Leads the coordination efforts and planning associated with all racecourse activities.


Directs the marathon volunteer program; to plan, recruit, and train volunteers. Ensures proper volunteer training is conducted.


Supervises, develops and directs coordination of logistical requirements for racecourse set-up and tear down. Ensures coordination for transportation requirements; security assistance; and other support operation to include telephone and radio communications, Audio/Visual, Medical Services, Engineering, Public Affairs, Protocol, Safety, and Legal support is complete, and all necessary functional requirements are prepared and in place for marathon events/activities.


Coordinates and arranges with state and local law enforcement and transportation agencies to ensure all applicable government regulations are followed in obtaining and securing necessary permits from each jurisdiction for highway and local road closures.


Develops, administers and negotiates contracts for the best quality and pricing of supplies, equipment and service contracts in support of the marathon. Ensures procurement/contracting efforts are accomplished in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.


Serves as the marathon publicity/public relations spokesperson. Plans, develops, and ensures implementation of the marathon marketing plan. Plans work to be accomplished: sets priorities; evaluates work performance; gives advice; counsel or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Interviews, recommends appointments, promotions or reassignments.


Travel opportunities to attend local, state, and national meetings, conferences, and seminars that pertain to running a marathon may be available. Irregular work hours may be required to represent the Coast Guard Marathon during marathon and other related events.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
:

Minimum:

1. Progressively responsible experience in areas of advertising, budgeting, event management and logistics

2.Knowledge of USA Track and Field long distance running rules and regulations.

3.Experience leading, supervising and directing personnel or volunteers.

4.Knowledge of military protocol and procedures, purchasing and financial accounting methods.


Preferred:

1. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in the area of Business Administration or Public Affairs or equivalent experience..

3.Have been a dependent of a United States Federal or military employee serving overseas.
