Catering & Event Assistant

Job Overview:
The candidate who will fill this important role will be responsible for interacting with our Temple staff and clients, regarding their catering orders & event needs, as well as provide excellent guest service and to communicate between the catering companies and Temple operations team during events.
The ideal candidate will need to be extremely organized, personable with clients and enthusiastic with extreme attention to detail and a high priority to satisfy the client.
A summary of daily duties is as follow below:
Catering Event Assistant - $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
- Receive all catering requests from Temple Israel in-house staff.
- Compile catering proposals from various vendors, make changes if necessary and submit for approval.
- Follow through with catering requests until the event has concluded.
- Placing all necessary orders for events to include food and beverage, décor, event supplies, etc.
- Place weekly orders for congregational, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and special event Onegs.
- Review the overall set up and implementation of events.
- Assist with venue layouts according to number of guests and event type.
- Attend events to ensure every detail is attended to and assisting the catering staff as needed.
- Ensure that the client requirements are adhered to and that functions run smoothly, efficiently, and profitably.
- Fluff & puff linen, make sure buffets and social halls are set according to Temple Israel’s standards, check each guest table for proper setting, etc.
- Greet all guests upon their arrival.
- Serve as “Event Host” for client during event from welcoming the client to providing drinks, checking in and offering to pack food to go for client.
- Continuous communication with the client through their event completion.
- Work closely with the catering banquet captain to ensure proper timing of the event.
- Monitors events, maintaining close contact with clients, service contractors and operations staff to ensure a successful event.
- Continually observe, direct, and assist staff where necessary during the entire event.
- Act as the liaison between Temple Israel operations team and the catering company serving the event.
- Ensures catering staff has left kitchen and facility in a clean and working order.
Qualifications
· Accredited certificate or diploma in catering, culinary arts, hospitality, or similar field.
· 3 – 5 years’ experience in catering, culinary arts, hospitality, or similar field
· In-depth knowledge of best practices in hospitality industry.
· Nights and Weekend availability
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
