POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent will performs skilled carpentry work of a journeyman level in rough and finished building. An employee in this class preforms skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance. The work is usually performed under the supervision of a Carpenter II or Building Maintenance Foreman. Carpenter I(s) are assisted by Apprentices and Trade Helpers.

This is a ACE/AFSCME, Local 2250 Position - Pay Table 200 - Grade 15

Hourly Range: $21.39 - $42.63

Detailed Description


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Makes and repairs cabinets, desks, tables and other office furniture;

  • Repairs doors and locks;

  • Makes and repairs window frames and sashes;

  • Makes and repairs partitions, complete covering with dry wall and paneling;

  • Applies spackling to seams and nail heads;

  • Installs ceilings;

  • Lays various types of floors and floor covering;

  • Makes and repairs screens;

  • Builds forms for pouring concrete;

  • Operates woodworking machinery;

  • Constructs small buildings and additions;

  • Supervises the work of Apprentices and Trades Helpers; and

  • Performs related duties as assigned.



Job Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the trade;

  • Ability to estimate time and materials as needed;

  • Ability to operate common woodworking machinery;

  • Ability to lay out work for self and others; and

  • Ability to rig and work from scaffolds; and must be in good physical condition.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of high school or GED, and trade school course with some experience as a carpenter and supplemented by completion of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

None Required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises Apprentices and Trades Helpers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
