Job description
This position serves as a consultant to the Office of Residence Life when concerned for the health, welfare and safety of students living in a residence hall complex. The Care Outreach Assistant provides staff consultation and training, assists with crisis intervention, manages daily case management needs of distressed students, and collaborates with staff to implement proactive prevention efforts.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, social work, counseling or related field.
Ability to project a high degree of personal and professional integrity, a strong sense of ethics, and respect for privacy and confidential situations.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong human relation skills.
Experience and comfort presenting to medium-large sized groups.
Willingness to serve on university committees aimed at prevention and wellness.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress.
Experience coordinating and organizing events and activities.
Knowledge of case management system software (e.g. Advocate).

Duties & Responsibilities
Manages outreach efforts and conducts meetings with students of concern to provide campus and community resource information.
Participates in student meetings and other meetings as requested.
Provides support, consultation, and information to Residence life staff and university partners as appropriate.

Provides Director of CMU CARES with monthly reports and an end of the year annual report.
Communicates any serious university situation which may impact students to the attention of the Director of CMU CARES.
Participate with University-wide prevention programs related to alcohol abuse/misuse, eating concerns, mental health, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
