Summary:
The Financial Specialist is an entry-level financial position in the Business Services Unit. Specifically, this position will work primarily within the district's bond program. In November 2022, voters approved a ballot measure that allows the district to embark on $350 million in capital improvements over the next several years. This position requires the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, explain financial information in easy-to-understand language, and present data and financial information to accomplish goals.
The right candidate will have an exciting opportunity to be a part of the team responsible to build 2 new schools, and positively impact ALL remaining BVSD school facilities. In addition to working within the bond program, the Financial Specialist position may also assist the Payroll Department to ensure accuracy and consistency in payroll data processing.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily transactions for stakeholders. Maintain and monitor databases, reconcile software reports, and verify data is accurate in systems. Ensure District and State policies and procedures are followed.
- Monitor and analyze financial activity (accounting) for assigned funds or programs. Generate routine and ad hoc analysis to ensure the accuracy of financial data. Provide timely feedback to relevant stakeholders as needed.
- Detailed analysis and ability to reconcile, analyze and investigate accounting data and month end balances for the assigned fund or program.
- Audit large data sets for accuracy and/or inconsistencies. Provide feedback and potential solutions to the supervisor.
- Prepare reports and review accounting data in preparation for month end reconciliation. Generate necessary reports to the supervisor in a timely manner to meet monthly/annual deadlines.
- Assist with the development and revision of standard operating procedures for the fund and/or program. Ensure transparent processes are in place.
- Ensure internal compliance with District policies regarding procurement, budget and accounting are in place.
- Participate in the creation of presentations and training materials, as necessary, for stakeholders. This may include presenting on District policies, educating
- school/departmental staff, and responding to questions. Assist in updating fund and/or program websites regarding departmental documents/forms, referencing links, etc.
- Act as a resource and primary contact for stakeholders in the program, fund, district, school, and/or community. Provide strong customer service to stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate Degree or above with a major pertinent to the position: Finance, Accounting or Business Management
- Minimum of one year experience in: Finance/Accounting
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
Preferred:
- Strong knowledge in accounting, financial analysis, and comfort with large data sets.
- Excellent critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze data to identify trends, understand variances, and explain such items to individuals at various levels.
- Microsoft Excel skills.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
- Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
