Education:
- 4-year bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s Degree, Ph.D., or progress toward Masters/Ph.D. is a plus
Relevant Experience:
- Undergraduate or master’s degree or have 5 - 10 years of work experience after completing your undergraduate degree
- A strong understanding of the energy industry transition and the evolving needs of customers around sustainability and resiliency
- Experience with the external innovation ecosystem (venture firms, accelerators, clean-tech startups, etc.) and a proven track record of developing successful partnerships with third parties and customers
- Experience working directly with customers and partners; including structuring and negotiating relationship framework
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and efforts within a large-scale, complex, and matrixed organization in a regulated industry
- Proven experience successfully leading new initiatives and partnering with other functional teams across an organization to deploy strategy
- Self-starter; strong analytical, business planning, and execution skills
- Zeal for technology innovation, business transformation and strategy development
- Understanding of utility operations or other large, regulated entities.
- Sound judgment skills to understand priority projects and their impact to the organization’s goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to develop and foster strong relationships with leaders across Southern.
- Ability to effectively communicate (written and orally) to build consensus around abstract and sometimes complex concepts
- Ability to take full ownership of projects and lead them to successful delivery
Essential Responsibilities
- Survey the innovation landscape to identify opportunities to test, validate and deploy decarbonization technologies both within Southern and in partnership with our customers
- Engage with internal stakeholders to understand their priorities and help achieve those priorities through innovative partnerships, programs, and technologies
- Engage with third parties, key customers, and other external stakeholders to develop, structure and execute partnerships that help drive decarbonization innovation
- Perform due diligence for commercialization opportunities within SO of new technologies and/or partners, including financial and feasibility evaluations
- Develop business cases for potential pilots and programs
- Participate and lead cross-company working teams
- Engage with end-customers around next generation technology
- Create internal and external communications (copywriting, PowerPoint graphics)
- Support other customer facing engagements as partnership and solution “broker”
