Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Blue Ridge Regional Office, seeks a qualified individual to review solid waste groundwater documents including corrective action documents and required submittals. Perform technical reviews of all submitted groundwater plans. Process solid waste permits in accordance with the regulations. Provide responses to citizens, regulated community, DEQ staff, other state agencies, and federal agencies. Meet with applicants and/or consultants to discuss regulatory and technical requirements. Collaborate with waste permitting staff and other media groups. Maintains and utilizes agency environmental databases to support agency programs. This position works with DEQ staff and facilities to resolve contested regulatory and technical issues efficiently, openly, fairly, and consistently.
Minimum Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, mathematics, modeling and statistical applications, water chemistry, and groundwater remedial technologies
- Knowledge of Federal and State Solid Waste Management Regulations
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to independently read and interpret engineering/geologic plans and specifications
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation from a college or university with major studies in geology, hydrology, or engineering preferred.
- Professional Geologist License preferred.
