Position Summary: JMT's Hunt Valley, MD office is seeking a Bridge Safety Inspection Technician responsible for assisting a professional engineer in performing condition assessments of in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and traffic device support structures. The Bridge Safety Technician will assist with planning and scheduling inspections, performing inspections, and preparing structure inspection reports. Sponsorship not available for this position.

  • Follow direction from professional staff to provide assistance on project work

Required Skills
  • Ability to work on multiple project assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work outdoors, traverse difficult terrain on foot, and climb ladders to access various assigned structures as needed
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software including WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to write, speak, and communicate effectively


Required Experience


Preferred Experience

  • 1-10 years minimum experience in performing in-service bridge safety and ancillary and/or other structural inspections

Preferred Certifications/Licenses/Training

  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • OSHA Fall Protection Training
  • OSHA Confined Space Training
  • Maryland SHA Temporary Traffic Control Manager
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Certification
  • CSX/Norfolk Southern Railroad Workers Contractor Safety Training
  • Snooper and Bucket Truck training
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training

Required Education

  • High School Diploma

Preferred Education

Associate degree in applied science or related technical field


Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office (50% of the time) and in the field (50% of the time). Field work will be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain or surfaces. Candidate must have the ability to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed. Work will require the operation of access equipment and performing inspections at heights requiring fall protection, and in confined spaces requiring confined space equipment. Field work may require short duration out-of-town travel.
