Position Profile: Under the supervision of the CRC Clinical Director, the Dual Diagnosis Clinician supports CRC’s mission and growth by ensuring that all counseling services provided to clients and families are being implemented through a client-centered, integrative wellness and recovery model that is strength-based, culturally relevant, and consumer driven. The Dual Diagnosis Clinician provides clinical activities & therapeutic services to clients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders using evidence-based and evidence-informed practices with a specialization in chemical dependency, serious mental illness and trauma informed treatment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated treatment approach for clients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance disorders that adheres to and upholds the standards of CRC as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of care.
- Conduct intake interviews and psychosocial assessments with assigned clients screening for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, withdrawal symptoms, dangerousness to self or others, and coexisting behavioral health problems.
- Assists clients with concrete services and advocacy, interfaces with other systems on behalf of client, engages in interdepartmental care coordination, and follow up on referrals when indicated by initial and on-going assessment.
- Develop treatment plans, including appropriate referrals to CRC and other relevant resources/services.
- Provide individual and group therapy to clients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders emphasizing trauma-informed principles and integrative mental health practice.
- Provide crisis intervention and management as appropriate.
- Ensure that intakes, treatment plans, progress notes, counseling and group services are scheduled and documented in a timely manner.
- Plan for, communicate, and document discharge/aftercare/transfer plans for clients completing treatment and/or accessing other support services.
- Maintain thorough and accurate client files as required by agency policy and the laws and regulations governing mental health services.
- Maintain regular contact with outside providers invested in client treatment such as psychiatrists, mental health clinicians, residential treatment centers, medical doctors, HHSA Social Workers, etc. to strengthen care coordination.
- Protect client confidentiality following protocols to obtain signed informed consents and authorizations to release information as required by agency policy and the Health Information Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Engage in professional development to remain current on evidence-based/informed therapeutic interventions for trauma treatment and psychological health promotion strategies.
- Maintain professional licensure as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and Certification as an Addiction Counselor.
- Maintain legal and ethical standards of care as outlined by California Board of Behavioral Sciences and professional clinical guilds.
- Participate in weekly group supervision and individual supervision as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Fluently bilingual (Spanish/English) with an unrestricted California state license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
- Certification as an Addiction Counselor.
- Completion of 40-hour California state approved Domestic Violence training within 90 days of employment.
- Minimum of one year of experience providing counseling services in a nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the impact of traumatic life events, homelessness and other adverse experiences on client functioning.
- Experience providing mental health treatment services to clients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Ability to work with clients and staff of varied backgrounds, educational levels, and ethnic and religious origins; must demonstrate an acceptance and respect for cultural diversity in all its forms, including ethnicity, sexual orientation, abilities, and religious backgrounds.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, listening skills, and a demonstrated ability to foster a supportive environment for clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and clear professional boundaries.
- Computer competence with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to use electronic information management system to document client services.
Physical requirements:
- Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stair climbing.
- Occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in a standard office environment at a computer, including repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse.
This position is non-exempt and is paid according to state and federal laws. Candidates selected for hire are required to have a LiveScan background and TB screening.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32.00 - $35.90 per hour
