Benefits Specialist Position Summary
The Benefits Specialist will identify and obtain appropriate insurance verifications to ensure accurate and efficient billing processes for the provision of mental health, substance use and primary care services in our integrated healthcare clinics. The role of the Benefits Specialist is to work collaboratively with clients, providers, staff, and insurance carriers to ensure optimal reimbursement. The Benefits Specialist will also be responsible for follow up regarding clients’ benefits issues and lack of insurance coverage issues.

Benefits Specialist Job Responsibilities:

• Conducts insurance verifications with Medicaid, Managed Medicaid insurances, Medicare, Medicare advantage plans and commercial insurances.
• Communicates with clients, benefits/billing teams and clinic providers regarding benefits and any issues.
• Offers clients opportunities to apply for sliding scale and payment plans.
• Assists with collection of co-pays and self-pay monies and also assists clients with billing and insurance related issues
• Researches and solves benefit discrepancies with reports, alerts, tasks, as needed.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years healthcare billing and benefit experience working in a medical/clinical setting.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates/Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Knowledge of typing, ability to use various computer applications in the Windows environment, to include Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.
• Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Valid NYS Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
