In this role you will:
Be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Benefit and Authorization staff. The Benefit and Authorizations Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining a smooth flow of benefit verification and authorization for all office visits ensuring the verification and authorizations are completed in a timely manner. The department is centralized at the OAWF Clearwater location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees all aspects of the Benefit/Authorization Department and reports directly to Patient Services Manager.
- Completes weekly departmental statistics.
- Oversees all benefit/authorization staff and assists with any problems, questions, or concerns.
- Monitors the volume of work to ensure it is distributed evenly among the Benefit/Authorization Reps.
- Authorizes and monitors Benefit/Authorization staff PTO requests, to ensure proper coverage.
- Monitors and corrects staff time cards for missed timecard punches.
- Completes and presents Benefit/Authorization staffs 30, 60, 90 and annual evaluations.
- Counsels and performs disciplinary actions with the Benefit/Authorization staff members.
- Oversees staffs attendance, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensures staff is working five days ahead on obtaining and entering benefits and authorizations.
- Ensures Authorization Representatives cancel appointments according to policy due to no
- authorization prior to office visit.
- Ensure staff is following FOI policy and procedures.
- Ensure staff have completed all add on patient accounts for next days clinic.
- Handles escaladed calls from patients and providers.
- Keeps Benefit and Authorization staff informed of any issues or new polices or procedures.
- Keeps Patient Services Manager informed of any issues or problems that need further attention.
- Interview and hire new Benefit and Authorization Representatives.
- Complete necessary paperwork relating to hiring new staff. (Personnel requisitions, IT login requests, internet sign on requests, etc.)
- Ensures staff are completing minimum number of yearly customer service classes.
- Coordinates staff training with the Benefit and Authorization Lead.
- Ensures staff receive training, re-training and continued training as necessary.
- Orders departmental supplies when necessary
- Sign off on training checklist for new Benefit and Authorization reps.
- Create and maintain policy and procedures for the Benefit and Authorizations Department.
- Creates How To documents for the Benefit and Authorizations Department.
- Provides motivation to the Benefit and Authorization Representatives.
- Holds monthly meetings with the Benefit and Authorizations staff.
- Assure compliance with all company plans, policies and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute
- All other duties as assigned
About You:
- High School Diploma
- 2 years experience in a medical field dealing with insurance verification and authorization.
- Must be multi-tasked, organized and a self- motivated individual.
- This person must have excellent verbal, written communication skills along with strong computer skills and knowledge, to include Microsoft Office products.
- This person must have intermediate data entry skills.
