Behavior Support Specialist

Description of Position:
The Behavior Support Specialist will work to support specific students in behavior intervention and support during classroom time and recreational periods. The Specialist will work closely with the program administration to determine goals and behavior plans. The Specialist will adhere to program behavior policies and structure, including the use of positive language in coaching students. Must be prepared to work with all program ages (K-6th grade). Experience with behavior support or intervention required. This position is part-time employment.
Qualifications:Requirements:
2-year associates degree in related field preferred or a minimum of 2 years related experience. Experience with direct services to students with behavioral challenges. Should be self-motivated; exhibit strong initiative and time management skills as well as good organizational and interpersonal skills. The position requires the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment but also the ability to work independently. Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with inner-city and un-churched youth is required. Must be a detail-oriented, logical thinker, who is a motivated self-starter and able to work independently on assigned projects. Must be able to adapt and change to meet the needs of the organization and the community. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-year associates degree in related field preferred or a minimum of 2 years related experience Confidentiality in all areas, mandatory
- Current classroom experience
- Ability to ensure lessons are interactive and engaging
- Must possess excellent organizational and record keeping skills
- Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with urban youth
- Good interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and classroom management skills
- Valid Driver’s License
- As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check through the Department of Human Services.
