Position Summary

The Italian Center of Stamford is seeking a qualified, motivated and energetic Banquet Director with proven ability in planning, directing and coordinating all aspects of catering and banquet operations and services. As Banquet Director, you will supervise the entire catering staff, including kitchen, wait, set up and snack bar personnel. Consistently maintaining the exceptional standards applicable to premiere dining and catering facilities is a must.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor and control all aspects of departmental budget and operations. Make recommendations for necessary adjustments and modifications.
  • Report on Banquet Department operations and financials to Executive Director. Attend Board of Directors meetings as needed.
  • Meet with prospective clients to plan, design and arrange all banquet functions. Ensure that contracted events are carried out to full satisfaction of clients.
  • Develop and maintain standards for superior food preparation and service.
  • Ensure food preparation methods, portion sizes, garnishing and food presentation to guarantee meals are prepared and presented in an exceptional manner.
  • Test prepared food by tasting and smelling to ensure palatability and flavor conformity.
  • Establish premium standards for personnel performance and customer services.
  • Prepare weekly work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and labor forecasts.
  • Establish communications and working relationships with other departments in order to facilitate complete success of client’s functions.
  • Ensure Banquet Department has all necessary provisions and materials needed to run all functions and events efficiently.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma. Degree in hospitality related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of documented banquet hall management, kitchen supervision and food service experience or similar experience in country club or hotel industry.
  • Expertise in Italian and regional American cuisine. Extensive knowledge of food preparation and production.
  • Food Handlers permit as required by state law.
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of food cost management, menu pricing, labor costs and scheduling, and expense controls.
  • Possess excellent written, verbal communication and time management skills with ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors and staff.
  • Ability to train, direct and supervise diverse departmental staff as well as monitor and assess employee and department performance to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include nights, weekends or holidays, in accordance with scheduled events.
  • Ability to establish priorities and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills – Word/Outlook/Excel and ability to learn new programs quickly.
