The Assistive Technology Specialist will be involved in programs and initiatives with staff and participants of the St. Louis Arc as well as assist in the development and implementation of a new assistive technology project. The goal of the position is to contribute to the success of the Assistive Technology program using technology devices, adaptive solutions, and applications. The position will have direct contact with the participants of the program via phone, video, and in person.

What you will do:

Contribute to the success of the St. Louis Arc's Assistive Technology Program

  • Deliver Assistive Technology installation and assistance in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Increase the independence of participants by developing personalized goals and providing technological solutions via one-on-one support.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, record detailed notes, provide evaluations, and monitor progress by collecting and analyzing technology usage data.

  • Contribute to the implementation of remote support strategies, including set-up and installation of devices, training participants, and ongoing troubleshooting.

  • Offer Help Desk assistance through a rotating schedule.

  • Communicate information and ideas effectively and clearly.

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external clientele.

  • Manage multiple deadlines and timelines to address diverse program requirements.

  • Proactively stay current on available tech and make recommendations for new implementations or changes.

  • Research and organize technology resources for individuals, families, and staff.

  • Collaborate with the Assistive Technology team to create and implement innovative support strategies and programs.

  • Assist with architectural review meetings about new technology and impacts on programs and community initiatives.

  • Contribute to training sessions on various technology platforms and applications.

What we expect of you:

The flexible, respectful individual we see in this position is an innovative and quick thinker with these qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred
  • 2 years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred

  • Understanding of how computer and mobile applications operate

  • Working knowledge of various technology platforms

  • Knowledge and skills utilizing Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Meetups, etc.

  • Strong understanding of technology devices (i.e. Amazon Alexa devices, Google Home, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, wearables, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of accessibility features on various technology devices.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and strategic planning skills

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Ability to connect with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in order to teach them how to use current technologies for social participation, as well as remote supports [e.g., transportation applications (such as Metro and Uber), shopping applications or sites, safe social skills, social media applications, etc.]
