Job description
The Lincoln Public Schools seek an educational leader to join our unique PK-8 community serving students and families from Lincoln, Boston, and the Hanscom Air Force Base. The Assistant Superintendent leads wide-ranging work to realize the district’s vision outlined in the LPS Portrait of a Learner with responsibilities including the coordination and supervision of all curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development activities. The Assistant Superintendent is also a key leader in the district’s AIDE (Anti-racism, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) work, and collaborates with principals, curriculum specialists and teacher/content specialists to lead the growth and development of all faculty members to ensure all students get what they need to thrive as learners. Oversight of the ESL program and teachers is also a function of this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title
ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Primary Purpose
Lead the curriculum, instruction, and professional development functions in the Lincoln Public Schools with a particular focus on maintaining a system-wide standards-based curriculum consistent with state and national standards. Also, to oversee and support district and state assessments of student progress.
Contractual
Relationship
Reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools and negotiates an individual employment contract with the Superintendent and the School Committee.

Works collaboratively with principals and supervises curriculum leaders, ESL teachers, ELA/math specialists, and instructional coaches
Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
- Supervises and monitors the implementation of curriculum PreK-8 in collaboration with principals and curriculum leaders
- Leads ongoing work with principals and other administrators to strengthen instructional practices across the district to achieve the Portrait of a Learner
- Manages the curriculum review cycle and leads the district’s effort for systematic review and alignment of curriculum
- Supports the district’s AIDE (Anti-racism, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) efforts
- Coordinates meetings & workshops about teaching and learning with teachers and administrators
- Develops, supervises, and monitors summer learning opportunities and curriculum workshops for staff
- Makes reports to the School Committee on initiatives pertaining to teaching and learning
Professional Development:
- Works cooperatively with the Lincoln Educators Association to promote professional development opportunities for all staff
- Facilitates the development of the district’s annual professional development plans and publishes information about professional development opportunities for the faculty.
- Focuses professional development to align with district's goals, curriculum initiatives, and priorities
- Supports and facilitates the district’s teacher mentor program in collaboration with building principals
Assessment:
- Manages the school district’s testing and assessment program
- Works with curriculum leaders and principals to carry out
local assessment measures and use results to inform instruction
- Reports to School Committee on annual state and local
assessments
- Oversees the ongoing revisions and use of standards-based
report cards
Grants:
- Seeks grant opportunities for the development of district programs and writes grant proposals
- Manages the school district’s grant application process
- Monitors grants and prepares reports to funding agencies
Personnel:
- Works cooperatively with principals in managing the hiring process for all classified staff and completes final interviews with superintendent based on principal/coordinator recommendations
- Monitors and reviews requests for course tuition reimbursement, conferences, and professional days in collaboration with building principals
- Interviews and hires substitute teachers and monitors their deployment
- Monitors the implementation of the teacher supervision and evaluation program in collaboration with the superintendent.
- Evaluates assigned staff on an annual basis
Other:
- Coordinates the district ESL program in collaboration with principals
- Coordinates home schooling programs
- Prepares reports to support School Committee decision making
- Makes presentations and interprets the instructional program to the professional staff, the School Committee, and community groups
- Advises the Superintendent in areas of responsibility and initiates program proposals and activities to improve services and/or increase the efficiency of the school district
- Functions as an educational leader on the Central Office Team to define the roles and expectations for staff, and administer changes which result from district, state or School Committee decisions
- Participates in the development of the district’s annual budget, prepares the budget for curriculum, instruction and professional development, and manages assigned cost-centers
- Performs other tasks assigned by the Superintendent
Qualifications
Master’s degree in an appropriate field
- Certified or certifiable as Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent in the State of Massachusetts
- Previous classroom experience at the PreK-8 level
- Previous experience as a school or district level administrator preferred
- Previous experience with curriculum development and program design; knowledge of and experience with standards-based curriculum
- Demonstrates ability to use data for decision-making
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to identify problems, analyze situations, develop potential solutions and work with various personnel (school department, town departments, community and vendors) to reach consensus
- Demonstrated ability to develop and present reports both orally and in writing
- Ability to manage fiscal resources
- Proficiency with basic computer tools (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and research tools)
