Posting Summary
The Rutgers University–Camden Department of English and Communication seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Communication position starting in Fall 2023. Applicants must have earned a PhD in Communication or a related field by the appointment date, which is September 1, 2023. Assistant Professors teach a 2/2 load. The successful candidate will begin on a three-year renewable contract, starting in the fall term of 2023.

The Department of English and Communication has a B.A. in English as well as a number of minors, including one in Communication. The department is interested in candidates who can both teach existing courses and develop new courses in the area. Candidates should be able to teach introductory courses in communication as well as advanced, theoretical-based courses. The department is especially interested in candidates with expertise in feminist and/or postcolonial approaches to intercultural digital communication as well as those whose teaching engages digital practices in Black, Latinx, AAPI, or Indigenous communities. Rutgers-Camden is a Minority-Serving Institution with a focus on experiential learning and social justice. Particular consideration will be paid to those applicants who can demonstrate how their teaching aligns with Rutgers-Camden’s Civic Engagement mission.

In addition to teaching in the Department of English and Communication, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in a range of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs on campus, as appropriate, including Digital Studies, Africana Studies, Global Studies, Film Studies, and Gender Studies, as well as a new M.A./M.P.S. program in Emerging Media that will launch in Fall 2024.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
