The primary purpose of your job position is to assist in the planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local regulations, guidelines, and standards of practice, and as may be directed by the Director of Nurses, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
As the Assistant Director of Nurses, you are delegated the responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. You will assume the role of acting Director of Nurses in his/her absence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
1. Identifies resident service requirements
By
Establishing personal rapport with potential and actual residents and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
2. Delivers resident care services
By
Developing collaboration among medical, nursing, and administrative staffs.
3. Maintains the stability and reputation of the health care facility
By
Complying with accreditation requirements; projecting a personal and professional image when dealing with people external to the facility.
4. Complies with federal, state regulations and facility policies
By
Obtaining rules, laws, regulations, standards of practice, etc. which apply to the Nursing Department and facility; assisting in the development and writing of applicable administrative policies and procedures by which the facility operates on a day-to-day function; enforcing adherence to requirements; reporting to regulatory agencies i.e. incidents or accidents with injuries resulting, drug diversion; reporting any abuse or neglect, disaster or resident abuse or neglect.
5. Maintains both professional nursing staff and C.N.A. staff
By
Assisting in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; carefully reviewing job applications that meet the criteria for the established job descriptions.
6. Maintains professional and C.N.A. staff job results
By
Coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning; monitoring, and appraising job results.
7. Maintains liaison with Medical Director and Medical Staff
By
Providing support services; and enforcing policies and procedures; making rounds or having conferences with the Medical Director as necessary.
8. Maintains residents’ confidentiality and protects operations
By
Keeping information confidential; following release of information protocols; following state laws and federal regulations regarding the right to access and release of health information; ensuring that nursing documentation is informative, descriptive, and timely as required by all requirements and/or regulations as well as the resident’s response to care.
9. Conserves resources
By
Using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish tasks; reviews and analyzes needs to obtain appropriate resources to complete tasks.
10. Contributes to team effort
By
Accomplishing related results as needed; providing instruction in areas of expertise to other team members when necessary as part of the on-going educational process.
11. Prepares work to be accomplished
By
Gathering, sorting, and prioritizing documents and related information; provides direction and instructions to personnel when and where appropriate to complete tasks as needed.
12. Keeps equipment operational
By
Following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; orders and maintains stock of equipment and supplies; monitors equipment to ensure safety and proper operations.
13. Assures quality of participation in the Nursing Department’s QA Program
By
Participating in data collection and retrieval; uses statistical methodologies to determine outcome measures; using data to estimate population means and standard deviations; advises departmental and facility staff on the importance of clinical data management, implementation, and monitoring of data; encouraging participation of Nursing Department staff in departmental QA/QI activities, both at management and C.N.A. levels.
14. Maintains professional and technical knowledge
By
Attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
15. Committee membership
By
Participating on the Medicare and Discharge Planning Committee or ad hoc committees.
16. Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible employees
By
Allowing employees to assume additional job functions or tasks under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisors during their training period; encouraging employees to enhance their knowledge base through the acquisition of jobs or tasks new to them.
17. Safety is monitored and ensured
By
Demonstrating, monitoring, and educating staff regarding safety rules, safe work practices, proper material handling and emergency procedures; enforcing The Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center Nursing Home disciplinary system for staff who break or disregard safety rules, safe work practices, proper material handling and emergency procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Current Massachusetts R.N. License
Five years or greater experience in long term care nursing and administrative management
Five years or greater experience working directly in a long term care facility, i.e.; SNF, subacute, rehab, psychiatric, etc.
