Job purpose

The Asphalt Paver Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the paver. Travel required 25% - 100% depending on the crew. Job posting for the 2023 construction season with anticipated season start in April 2023.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Operate equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
  • Monitor the operational condition of the paver, check for loose parts, ensure that the machine is operating properly, and that machine is kept clean and maintained daily
  • Check all fluid levels daily and perform daily walk-around inspection, to include greasing as necessary, when operating equipment
  • Must have the ability to hold a straight line and grade while watching for overhead obstructions
  • Set paving speed that balances tons per hour, job capacity, and compaction
  • Direct truck driver to enter paver smoothly, raise and lower box, and exit paver when empty
  • Work with Screed Operator to establish and maintain proper head of material and mat quality
  • Start and stop the paver successfully to prevent end-of-load roughness and beginning-of-load rise
  • Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
  • Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one s surroundings
  • Report needs for large repairs to appropriate parties
  • All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of operating Asphalt Paving Machine
  • Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
  • Possess a valid driver s license (Class A CDL preferred)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

  • Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
  • Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
  • May be required to work 65+ hours, 6 days a week.

  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
  • Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
