A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AREA SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE
The Area Safety Representative will foster and maintain a proactive approach to safety and will promote an employee-centered safety work culture. He/she will report directly to the Corporate Safety Director.
This role will support and assist the field workforce. They will perform safety training, continually evaluate jobsites for hazards and implement corrective measures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct new employee orientations and ensure compliance with site drug testing program
- Develop and conduct training as needed at the project including, but not limited to, fall protection, confined space, personal protective equipment, first aid/CPR, signal person and Hazard Communication
- Write review and modify site specific safety policies and procedures
- Ensure jobsite compliance with Federal, State and Local Regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures
- Lead incident investigation efforts & document findings and assist in developing lessons learned to help prevent reoccurrence.
- Job site safety inspections (inspection of power tools, cords, hazards, etc.)
- PPE inspections, order, replace, and administer training

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Seeking a detail-oriented, excellent communicator with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and take initiative
- Candidate must be willing to accept travel to the job sites
- The Site Safety Representative must have a comfortable working/teaching knowledge of the following: Hazard Communication, Use of P.P.E., First-Aid/CPR & AED, Trench Shoring, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Blood Borne Pathogens, OSHA Regulations, Forklift, Silica, and Mobile Cranes.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), PowerPoint and other related computer software
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of safety experience in the general construction industry, preferably civil infrastructure and heavy highway construction
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety from an accredited program, at minimum a Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technician Certification (CHST) required
- 30-hour OSHA Construction safety class or its equivalent
- OSHA 500 Trainer and First Aid CPR Instructor preferred
This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects, and in a heavy manufacturing facility with various safety hazards which are potentially life-threatening to the employee. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, around chemicals which require a government permit, around high voltage, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
