Job description
- Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide basic husbandry, handling, restraint, health surveillance, and technical support in compliance with local regulatory requirements.
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical setting preferred, animal hospital technical experience will be considered.
- Maintain and perform cage washing, housekeeping and facility support areas as assigned.
- Must possess very good technical skills.
- Will need to perform multiple technical procedures including, but not limited to: sq dosing mice, ic blood collection mice, oral dosing mice, blood collection in rabbits.
- Must be comfortable handling a variety of common lab animal species: eg. Rabbits, mice, rats, nhp, hamsters.
- Must be comfortable performing husbandry/cage cleaning/box changes on a variety of common lab animal species.
- Daily interaction with fellow animal technicians in animal rooms and on studies.
- Daily interaction with management and veterinary staff.
- Daily interaction with technicians/Principal investigators conducting study work
- Proficient at handling and performing husbandry tasks (eg. Changing mouse boxes) for a variety of lab animal species.
- Proficient at various technical skills, including but not limited to: SQ dosing mice, IC blood collection mice, ear tagging mice, surgical preparation on mice, blood collection in rabbits, blood collection in NHP.
- Ability to perform clinical animal observations for health assessment.
- Comfortable with computer systems: will need to work with computerized animal health records, enter observations/measurement in excel spreadsheets, handle e-mails, web-based training, online forms and other basic computer programs.
- Will need to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Will need to be able to push/pull racks/caging, lift bags of feed/bedding, reach, bend, stoop.
- Will need to be their feet most of the day
- Will need to work in areas with BSL2/BSL3 requirement.
- Will need to have a negative TB test up to date, provide documentation of up to date Flu vaccination, and provide documentation of MMR vaccination or positive MMR titers.
- Will need respiratory fit testing up to date
Education:
- High school degree or GED required 5+ years of animal work experience.
- Associates or BS/BA in related field preferred. 2+ years animal work experience.
- AALAS certification at the LAT(or equivalent eg. Licensed veterinary technician) preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Salary: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
