POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the SLAYB Program Manager, the AmeriCorps Coordinator will be part of an innovative team of service providers and educational experts that will work collectively to create/run an innovative national service program for young adults in South Los Angeles that face the greatest barriers to finding employment. The AmeriCorps Coordinator will facilitate one-on-one and group leadership develop, teambuilding, community service and engagement projects, construction service projects and civic engagement activities to at-risk and transition-age youth in the South Los Angeles YouthBuild program. The AmeriCorps Coordinator will assess community needs, identify barriers to economic development, and coordinate service-learning projects to address community and resident needs. The AmeriCorps Coordinator will keep abreast of and adhere to all contractual and compliance guidelines as outlined by the Corporation for National Community Service and YouthBuild USA. Lastly, the AmeriCorps Coordinator will represent the South Los Angeles YouthBuild AmeriCorps program at all local, regional and national conferences or event.
The AmeriCorps Coordinator should spend 70% of their time planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising community and construction service projects for SLAYB AmeriCorps members. 20% of their time will be spent on background checks, enrollment paperwork, timesheet documentation, data entry and other documentation and reporting duties as required by CNCS and YouthBuild USA. 10% of their time will be spent on organizational and department meetings, local, regional & national conferences, or events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee recruitment & enrollment of new SLAYB AmeriCorps members
- Oversee TrueScreen & FieldPrint background check process, as well as other eligibility requirements, for new SLAYB AmeriCorps members
- Document all services hours by SLAYB AmeriCorps members, following all necessary systems and procedures, while tracking progress of primary vs secondary service hours
- Maintain all physical files and electronics systems (DYB, Salesforce, eGrants) per requirements of grant contract
- Update/revise AmeriCorps member descriptions and agreements as well as program policies and procedures as needed
- Plan & develop a catalog of ongoing and on-time service opportunities to assure that SLAYB AmeriCorps members are presented with sufficient opportunity to successfully complete their services hours and earn education award
- Develop on-going member training & development opportunities for SLAYB AmeriCorps members
- Oversee all aspects of SLAYB AmeriCorps program to meet and exceed all grant outlined program goals and outcomes
- Expand volunteer recruitment partnerships with organizations, schools, and companies in the area
- Educate SLAYB AmeriCorps members on the benefits and utilization of the Siegel Education Award
- Reach out to corporate partners to participate in their service days and recruit their staff members for recurring volunteer opportunities
- Plan monthly AmeriCorps member meetings in coordination with SLAYB team
- Create a monthly volunteer newsletter and service opportunity calendar
- Develop and coordinate various leadership development opportunities for SLAYB AmeriCorps members
- Uphold CRCD’s Mission Statement and 5 Year Strategic Plan
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 years’ experience or related work and/or AA Degree
- Experience working with young adults with barriers,
- Experience verifying & documenting strict eligibility & enrollment requirements
- Experience in working in a YouthBuild program or similar setting
- Experience entering data into multiple systems
- Experience in planning, organizing, coordinating community service events
- Fluent in case management facilitation
- Experience in facilitating group workshops
- Understanding and knowledge of socio-economic disparities in the Vernon- Central community
- Proficient reading and writing skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources
- Access to reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and car insurance as required by law, as appropriate
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- On occasion walk or drive to different local sites throughout the day.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Combination of field and office environment.
- May necessitate working in busy and loud environments.
- May be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor.
- Work regularly in a community that is exposed to gang activity, substance use, homelessness, and high unemployment rates.
- This is not a work-from-home position.
