Job Title: African American Achievement Program (AAAP) Site Leader (short-term contract)
Positions are only available to current staff employed at the following buildings:
Wilson Middle School
Number of positions available: Up to 1 per building
Description:
The purpose of the African American Achievement Program is to help students learn about their history and culture, which will lead them to developing pride in themselves, their culture and their history.
AAAP is a middle school-based achievement program for students who identify as Black, Brown or Biracial and who have leadership potential. This program is designed to give students the tools they need to succeed both academically and socially, by strengthening their self-regard and cultural identity, and by developing and enhancing skills. Students learn about post-secondary education and are challenged to seek out academic leadership opportunities. They are also exposed to influential Black, Brown and Biracial leaders within our community, whose stories can serve as inspiration.
AAAP Site Leaders meet with students weekly, during lunch, before, or after school to engage in discussion about culturally specific common readings and events, as well as maintaining relationships with students’ families to promote student opportunities. Students complete a book study over the course of the program and participate in a college campus visit near the end of the school year. At the conclusion of the program, students will report being more engaged in leadership and academic opportunities, improved listening, note-taking and critical thinking skills, stronger vocabulary, greater confidence in their ability to achieve and pride in their learning, and an increased understanding of their cultural history.
Under the direction of The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success, AAAP Site Leaders will provide a combined total of 69 hours of training (held in September), individual and group contact hours with participating students and their families (October-May) at a rate of $30/hour or $2,070.00 Stipend.
