The University of New England (UNE) Library Services is seeking an Access Services Librarian to join our collaborative team, coordinating and managing all aspects of our Biddeford Campus Library Information Desk. This is a full-time, in-person role to begin on or after April 3, 2023. The position is based at the Jack S. Ketchum Library on our Biddeford Campus, working with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and the greater community. The successful candidate will have experience successfully managing customer service-oriented personnel and communicating and collaborating with colleagues on multiple, ongoing projects and responsibilities. Library experience and/or an MLIS are preferred, though a comparable combination of education and experience and a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn quickly will be considered.
This role is part of a team of professionals who work collaboratively within a team-based organizational structure reporting to the Dean of Library Services. The person in this position is an active member of the Library team and UNE community, and works with other units and programs dedicated to student success. Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a team of 20-30 library student assistants per semester. Supervise, including hiring, scheduling, and training student workers in all circulation/reserve functions and responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Oversee all circulation and course reserve functions using the libraries’ integrated system, including notices and billing. Maintain accurate patron and transaction records and coordinate delivery of library material between the two UNE campuses.
  • Manage and maintain the libraries’ circulating and reserve collections, including shelving materials, repair, shifting, shelf-reading and inventory. Develop expertise in the libraries’ integrated system and serve as a staff resource.
  • Manage and maintain welcoming and inclusive library spaces. Ensure equipment and furnishings are in good working order. Report maintenance and cleanliness issues or emergencies as necessary. Liaison with campus facilities, housekeeping, student affairs, ITS and other key departments.
  • Work collaboratively with information desk team members to recommend, establish, and evaluate policies, procedures, and workflow, and increase the quality and efficiency of user services. Assist with general library operations and be cross-trained in specific areas. Collaborate with UNE faculty, staff and students to plan, coordinate and evaluate services, exchange information, and resolve problems.

Qualifications
Masters in Library Science and experience in public services and personnel management or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Prior experience in an academic library setting and familiarity with library circulation services preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of employees with the ability to select, train, schedule, and manage employees performing all required duties and responsibilities with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high degree of computer literacy. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse academic community. Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Sierra Integrated Library System (ILS) or another ILS preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to create and maintain accurate records. Knowledge of the principles, organization, systems and philosophy of an academic library preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team-based management structure, initiate ideas and share information and knowledge to work productively with library staff. Ability to work independently, plan, organize, prioritize, and complete projects by target dates. Flexibility and ability to adapt to cyclical periods of intense work, prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends and to travel between campus locations.
