This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth & Family Lead assists in implementing and planning and gives direction and supervision to infant, preschool age and children up to 12 years of age of YMCA members participating in temporary child care.

This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-Time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Household Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist Director to coordinate youth and family activities and programming.
  • Assist Director with organizing curriculum and ordering program supplies.
  • Assist Director to coordinate family nights, parent's night out, home school program, special needs programs, special events, birthday parties, and activities for our youth, families and community.
  • Plan and implement a weekly program that includes theme, game, stories, and crafts.
  • Supervise and participate with children during all large and small group activities.
  • Provide discipline for children that are age appropriate.
  • Demonstrate proper care and storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively and exhibit a professional attitude with all other staff, parents and children.
  • Complete routine and required forms to include, but not limited to: attendance records, program events, observation records and incident and injury reports.
  • Change diapers as needed.
  • Greet parents and children and communicate child watch/ kidz club policies and guidelines.
  • Assist with the cleaning of toys and environment as directed by supervisor.
  • Participate in annual Y Partners campaign.
  • Assist Director to write the schedule for the Youth and Family Department.
  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff, and follow incident report procedures and policies.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and with at least 6 months of childcare experience preferred.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Appropriate Touch, Child Abuse Prevention, and Hazardous Communications.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
  • Incumbent must be a positive role model to children and display emotional maturity and stability at all times.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
    program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
    with people from different backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in an active environment.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to communicate with staff, children, and parents.
  • This position requires high levels of attention and alertness.
  • Visual acuity is required for child supervision.
  • Repetitive stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required. Ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time are required, as well as, the ability to run and be able to participate in sports.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
