Position Summary:


Performs operation and maintenance activities of the water treatment plant and pump stations. Performs daily monitoring of system and facility equipment and gathering, compilation of daily data. Analyzes and monitors data results to determine process changes required to maintain a quality effluent. Conducts compliance monitoring and process control testing. Troubleshoot and repair electronic components at water treatment facilities. Maintain complete, accurate and accessible lab records for all required testing. Conducts daily rounds at water treatment facilities to obtain meter readings, check equipment, cleaning and observe for any abnormal conditions. Assists with equipment and well maintenance program.


Essential Functions & Basic Duties:


Abilities:

  • Ability to learn the theory, principles, practices and methods of water system operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to learn principles of the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Ability to interpret Material Safety Data Sheets for hazardous materials used in water department maintenance.
  • Ability to learn materials and operate equipment used in water department maintenance such as pick-up trucks loaders, backhoes, Jet-Vac truck, pumps, snowplows, grinders, welders, drills, demo saw and miscellaneous hand tools.
  • Ability to learn operations of electrical devices such as: amp probe and voltmeter.
  • Ability to learn and operate air monitoring devices and ability to enter confined spaces if needed.
  • Ability to don a SCBA to enter an oxygen deficient atmosphere, as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate lab records for all required testing.
  • Monitor data results to determine process changes required to maintain a quality effluent.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with other plant team members, vendors, inspectors, and the general public.
  • Ability to be available for on call duties, as well as the possibility of irregular hours including nights and weekends.


Education/Experience Required:


  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in water treatment and distribution.
  • Possession of a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Water Treatment Operator Class ‘C’ License or greater.
  • Class 1 Distribution License (CDL) or ability to obtain CDL within a year of employment.
  • Perform all physical requirements of the position to include lifting and carrying heavy (up to 75 pounds) objects.


Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, reaching, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • May be exposed to chemicals and other hazardous materials. The incumbent’s work may expose him / her to high places, dangerous machinery and its moving parts, sharp tools, fumes, chemicals and / or toxic substances.
  • Position will require travel to various work sites and mobility in extreme weather conditions.
  • Employee must maintain a valid driver’s license at all times.
  • Able to drive a 4-wheel drive truck.
  • Rotational On-Call availability

This position requires both inside and outside work in all weather conditions year-round. This position requires detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines on multiple concurrent tasks, constant interruptions and interaction with government officials and the general public.
